i have just fitted a syncros stem to my yeti arc.
unfortunately it is quite a bit deeper than the ringle zooka i was using.
the stem steerer clamp is just visible above the top of the fork steerer when looking down without the stem cap fitted. safe or unsafe?

yeah thanks lads,
i pretty much knew it was a lost cause....
looks like there will be a NOS syncros stem for sale then.....

..... or using one of these, for £ 8, extend the steerer?

it is the fork steerer that is too short, not some problem with the stem - what stem would you use instead?

yeah it's the fork steerer
i had a ringle zooka, AND a 5mm carbon spacer on it prior to this!
had no idea the syncros stem was so much taller, gutted as now have a matching seatpin too!
will revert to the ringle and leave it as it is.
don't really like the idea of an extender if truth be told, would still feel uneasy about it.
and steerers can't be swapped in rockshox forks, it needs to be a whole crown assambly, and it's not worth that financially speaking!
if anyone wants to swap a mint pair of reba teams for a mint pair of reba teams (or similar), shorter for longer, then that would be cool too, but unlikely!!

NO

Thinnest headset ive seen is 11.1mm Some of it is inset so the profile is minimum.

And i think theyre on crc sale well reduced. Cant remember who makes them just spotted them the other night

If you are really crazy for this stem, you could get 2mm ground off the top and bottom of your head tube, any decent bike shop would do it for a tenner with a headtube facer. You;d get an extra 4-5mm of purchase. Looks like you have plenty to play with. I've ridden stems about 8-10mm below the top of the limit with no problems. 5mm, like all of this tosh is the #recommended limit.

convert head tube for integrated headset?

or check out black spire dh low profile headset (n/a in gold)

I'd just have the head tube reduced by 2 mm top and bottom. I've done it on a few frames where replacement forks were a smidge too short. It takes all of five minutes at a good LBS
