Hi all,

I was wondering what people have found to work well and without fuss for rust proofing and such with steel frames?

What sort of experiences? And should a frame be re-painted before or after, what about inside seat and chain stays and such, and how to deal with rust already present in old frames?

I have a Fat Chance I want to make sure does not rust, and an old Trek 930 ox triple butted cro-mo frame which I am in teh middle of stripping down for a re-build. It has seen constant commuting abuse in all weather for the last six or seven years or so.

Any tips and such?

Cheers,
Steve

no if the frames painted then use a product called corrosion block or ACF50 both are really good products and dont wash off in two mins, ive sold the stuff for a while to motorbike users with great reports back, have a read on my website for details of product spec www.robin-iom.co.uk

i cand post tins to you as postal service dont alow me to as tins go by air but have a look on ebay or likes

Galv it

You can buy stuff called GALVAFROID.Its a paint with a base of zinc particles that effectively galvanises the frame. Don't think it would be that effective internally but you could give it a go.

all my steel frames iv'e had and have are always grit blasted then hot metal zinc galvanised the powder coated on the outside then i waxoyl the insides with loads in a warm dry room my room to exact then pour the frame with this finishline stuff i use at work will get name tomorrow lasts for ages if not millenia        over kill i know but worth it 8)

I've used Frame Saver and B-9 Boeshield...they are both better than WD-40, but pricier as well.

I'll have to give that waxyol a try...is it very toxic?
