Running magura's on water?

Slightly off topic, in coal mines all hydraulic fluid is water due to the explosion risk of atomised oil.

Every day a School Day Next thread, has anyone had any Hydraulic Oil related explosions involving Maguras or any othe Hydraulic Brakes system

Or Explosions in general ?

After trying several types of fluid in my maguras, i decided WD40 worked best for me, it gives a great feel on the lever and has been in their for years now without issue

That's why I used water! Knew I had a reason just couldn't remember. I didn't have a bleed kit and with water you can do it in the sink.

Water works but not very well if you use River water from the Trent like my friend did a while ago.

So what were all saying is it can be done but probably shouldnt and stop being a tight arse and but the proper stuff.

Agreed, next discussion: can I use dog shit to pack my BB bearings instead of grease.

On the plus side we had momentarily cured the worlds dependency on oil through the creation of a car with water in the brakes that creates hydrogen every time the brakes are applied which could then be used to feed a hydrogen fuel cell which would power the car and produce water as a byproduct which could then be used in the brakes which would produce hydrogen....

Water is very slightly less compressible than oil so it would feel direct to say the least. Other issues with degassing, and corrosion, but it would work temporarily
