Bleeding xt brakes

I'm used to bleeding brakes, done it for years, hope, Shimano, magura, avid/SRAM, Hayes, formula to name some.

I happened to watch a video on the xt brakes I have, just because they have the catch cannister that screw on to the master cylinder which I hadn't used before, and the procedure didn't have the usual pump lever and hold step I'm used to doing. It simply advised to push fluid from bottom to top, tighten the calliper nipple, remove the catch can, refit the cap on the lever and that's it.

Is that really all that's needed on these brakes or not?

I don't know about these specific brakes but I've done a fair few moped/motorbike brakes this way, from the days of buzzing around on Peugeot Speedfights and the like which were rubbish. Just nice and steady at first to make sure the caliper is full and all the air goes up the line.

I would try it that way next time and if it works, great. If not then it's back to the pump and hold to firm things up.

I have one of those Shimano canisters and they work really well. I'd only push from the bottom on a full bleed. If you're just topping up you can attach the canister, put some fluid in and then pump the lever a few times.
