Running a Pace with Cantis

Hi Guys,

Been scratching me head on what I can do with my non retro Avid Arch Rivals.

Ideally I'd love to get some Campag Cantis on my bike but I have no idea on how I'd get the front one to fit with my RC30's.

I don'tmhave a cable hanger and to bodge it would be just wrong, so how did the early RC200's get around it, did they have to run Maguras, or settle in for using RC35's?

Cheers for any advice

Rich

run a hangers in the headset stack maybe?? or move to a stem with a noodle??? or swap those rc30's for my rc35's!!!

i'm glad the ride got cancelled if thats the bike you were bringing!!!!!!!

IIRC a mate of mine had a grey RC200F1 with RC30's, he ran a conventionl head set with a hanger and a noodle.
The other option is to use a stem with a noodle.

Neither of these help with your lovely Pace stem steerer though...

It would not be nice but you could drill and tap the crown and use a Pace rocker?

If you were handy in metalwork then you could make a nice looking clamp to go around the stem with a noodle in it for the cable. Use steel and go for an sort of posh Jubilee clip arrangment.

Pauls Crosstops are your ultimate fix here though! Good luck finding them though!

It's a real toughie as the stem/steerer and aheadset means you can't use a doggy type/steerer mounted hanger on this bike at all. You could drill the crown, but you won't will you....

All early ones were magura only so your best bet is to use a nice set of retro Vs like pauls and then use a pauls canti on the back to match

Rich, drilll your crown  You have 4 stud holes in the crown can't you not make a plate bracket to pick up on 2 of those and angle it up like on a AMP front cable hanger obviously using longer studs as you will lose the counter bore on the crown as the plate will cover it. Iam sure you can come up with somthing Rich

On that note why not run longer crown bolts for the middle 2.
Use a plate that runs from the back to the front, held on to the longer crown bolts with nyloc nuts. The plate would then be a sympathetic addition to the crown.

is the fork steerer tube too short to accept a clamp-on hanger?

Unfortunately its a real quirky british design - the stem and steerer are a one piece item with the steerer being custom cut to fit the frame and crown. At the other end the stem also has the compression ring for the aheadset welded on it. It means you could add a hanger but it would mean having less steerer in the crown and it may mean the aheadset may not work properly.
