Here goes, answer to my own question, maybe I'm going mad ......
Royce union are a company who were originally dutch then the name was bought out by a Japanese bike firm to make their bikes seem more respectable in USA and European markets. Company or at least brand name ceased to exist in about 1998.
Maker of low end bikes equivalent to our Falcon or Emmelle brands sold through car parts shops or catalogues. My bike being from the 8TD range of the late 90's.
I believe my bike was from near the top of their hardtail range being about 1997-98 with an 7000 series alloy frame and 21 speed transmission.
The head tube is one inch probable because the bargain forks they used were 1" threaded. The frame is suspension corrected for between 2 and 3 inches of travel and has clearance for tyres up to 2.2 inches with V-brakes only.
I have sourced some RST 461 forks with 3" travel and a 1" unthreaded steerer and intend to build the bike up as a 21 speed with hopefully
acera-x or altus components so that it roughly fits its likely build spec for the period.
Any more info on Royce Union would be a help !
Cheers
