Roy Thame Frame

Retro Newbie
Hi Everybody

I'm shortly going to try and sell a Roy Thame road bike frame. It comes complete with Cinelli Perfection bars, Campag shifters and front mech, Campag seatpost, Shimano Crane rear mech and Weimann brakes. Frame condition is quite good with only minimal surface rust in places. The components will need an overhaul as it has not been used for years. Any advice on value would be much appreciated.

Does the seat post move? Trickier to sell if jammed in the frame. Touring frame with brazed on mounts for rear rack. You will make more if you sell each bit individually.

Does it take a 27"/700c wheel? It looks really small, yet the head tube appears quite long. It almost looks as though it takes a smaller wheel size, but it may just be the slightly downward camera angle.

Thanks for the responses. I have managed to get the seat post to free up so that does move. In terms of wheel size i think the photo angle must be making it look small - the frame size is 58cm from the centre of the bottom bracket to the top of the seat tube.

Re:

To be able to charge what the frame is worth you need to discover what it is worth, which means removing all components, including the forks, to check the integrity of all the threads and such. Obviously if you can guarantee the alignment of the frame, and that anything that threads onto it or fits into it will do so without issue, it is worth more than if you cannot.

If you want a quick 'as seen' sale you are effectively asking the potential buyer to take a chance on these things, with a corresponding reduction in the remuneration you can reasonably ask for.

The same goes for the components.

If you feel like sharing your frame number, or better still, photographing it, I'm sure it would be welcome on one of dwscrimshaw's Holdsworth frame number threads.

That is a nice frame.

Paid €100 for mine, IIRC.

Turned it into one of my favourite touring bikes, FWIW:
