Every day I learn something new!

Thank you

Today I learn what a Portacenta hole is, and that Shaun has amazing eyesight!

Re:

I love the portacentre thing - you learn something new every day!

The news is in from Rourke, "I have had a look in the old paper work and on the computer system. (we computerised the early frame data) however I am currently unable to find any further information in either archive on the frame number. Looking at frame numbers around yours I can tell you we were using two tubing sets around that time. 531 SL and 531 DB"

So I am claiming it's SL :D

So then, I have been saving my pennies, and having a ruminate, and have the following thoughts - I'd appreciate some input.

Really, I want to ride it and in order to do that I am pretty fixed on ergoshifters. However, I have £400 in the pot. A few questions:

Will I have to replace the whole gruppo and wheels, or is there a way I can keep the lovely record hubs (which, to be honest is one of the reasons I snapped it up)

Are there any options I haven't thought about?

Will need a new stem too - and bars. So pretty much the whole finishing kit really, and I look at the £400 and think "that's likely not enough"

(note, if I went 10 or 11 speed, I wouldn't need wheels)

Firstly you will need to spring out the rear (I'm assuming it is a 126mm OLN) If you want to go down the route of ergoshifters, I can recommend Campag Record Titanium 9 speed circa 2001/2002 I think. Still quite retro but the manufacturing quality is beautiful and it really works.

Right....9spd record sourced and should be arriving shortly. Rear end is indeed 126mm, a question.....is the spring out a job for frame builder?

Re:

It's a DIY job but if you are unsure, take it to a decent LBS.
Good choice of groupset
