They hit their stride musically in the 70s, and as a live phenomenon came into their own in the 80s. No other band works a stadium like it was a hundred seat speak-easy.
As thrilling and energetic as the Manchester scene was, it was small beer to the likes of The Who, Floyd and The Stones.
The only Manc band that understood stadium rock was Oasis, and they totally lost their edge once they got there.
When you see the Stones, it is much more than a mere gig.
