From the manuals I managed to get from Rock Shox website, there is an adjuster that fits on to an allen bolt which screws into the right hand fork leg.

How is the adjuster meant to work? The service manual states that is pushed on to the bolt. The adjuster is meant to be turned to set the rebound damping but surely all that does is to do up or undo the bolt thus letting the oil out of the leg? The bolt has a nylon washer and alloy cup.

Photo from service manual:

In the photo I can't quite work out if the bolt is hollow and the adjuster has a long central bit that goes through the bolt and into the fork gubbins - that would make sense to me.

Does the rebound adjuster actually do anything?? I can twiddle my knob All day without any difference at all.

Btw- Seriously, that is not an invite for smutty remarks you lot!!

SID

Make sure its not a Hydra air SID as the 'adjuster' under the leg on these is actually a cover for the air valve for pumping the rebound adjuster. The plastic knob will turn endlessly doing nothing at all.
Just a thought.

hydra air

Hi mate
I got that a bit mixed up now I read it back
Hydra air has a small spring in the bottom of the left hand dropout that controls the negative function. This is non adjustable and the plastic cover just covers a bolt that blanks of the air adjuster hole used on the other SID models.
For rebound damping adjustment, ( a damping screw) this is at the bottom of the right hand leg for hydra airs, clockwise increases damping, anti - clockwise decreases damping.
Hope this helps

yep -- my hunch was correct;

I need equivalent fo this kit for my fork http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Mode ... elID=21941

might be able to use it. (spindle looks a bit longer that the one for mine)

Anyone got sa SID fork and removed the adjuster? Is the spindle thing square or hex cross section?

The red one you inked to should fit OK. I have used one on a year 2000 SID XC. Use the original bolt hough. You will notice it has a o-ring and the new one doesnt. Without this o-ring all you fork oil will leak out as soon as you compress the fork.

I have the original black plastic one spare too.

Just to confirm. Does you fork look like this?

thx for the help ... not sure if mine is hydra air - will get a phjoto up over the weekend that may help identify it.

the left leg at top has positive spring and at bottom the negative spring.

the right leg on top has a valve for something, forget for what but I don't think it is rebound damping since there is a rabbit/tortoise graphic with the word rebound at the bottom of the leg where the rebound adjuster would go.

just to complicate matters, the fork sliders (the outermost bits to which the wheel is attached) were swapped over so it may be that the rebound adjust graphic does not apply since the rebound is done by the air spring at the top, which is part of the inner fork. hmmm..... :?
