Riveting cable stops

As mentioned above, I have a car that is held together with the little blighters. Whenever I use pop rivets, I'm amazed how firm they are. Here's the sort of thing you need:

hiya,i would'nt be too worried mate.i have a cable stop riveted to my orange
e3 frame to accept a v brake set-up and,like yours is a tad loose,but not going anywhere.any pressure from outer cable will be a side-to side motion so i reckon you'll be ok.as mentioned above a tiny blob of epoxy should steady the ship just a tiny dot on each corner and your sorted.

I wouldn't be worried one little bit about drilling out and re-riviting

The canti bosses are rivited on vectors and I havnt heard any horror stories about them - I should imagine they are more stressed with the leverage of the canti / v arm ?

I drilled out the cable-stop rivets and then re-riveted them on after stripping the paint on my Dagger frame with no problems.

When I drilled them out I used a hand drill to avoid going through the top tube and out the other side! Probably a little over cautious but it worked perfectly and quickly.
Be careful re-riveting them back on. The rivet gun really jumps when it cuts the rivet off - could lead to scratches.

But it's a no-brainer really, even quite enjoyable when you get into it!

Squeeze the barrel on the end of the riviter with one hand while you close the handles with the other. As soon as the rivit pops your hand on the barrel closes and protects your work piece finish

Small rivits are easy to pop with one hand but if you are struggling don't open the handles fully, use lots of small squezes rather than one big one.

Have a practice on scrap first, all will come clear
