Riding No Handed in London earns you a ticket?

I'm sure the officers had arrested everyone in the City of London guilty of $$$M fraud that day and were simply at a loose end - and meaning well.
don't do that. Don't be the guy who proclaims that the bobby on the street should be dealing with bigger stuff.

What happens when your bike gets nicked, is that to small to be dealt with?

or the granny who gets her purse snatched?

or the blind chap that gets clipped by a cyclist who jumped a light? is that big enough?

If we tell them that they shouldn't be wasting their time on the small stuff, they'll stop "wasting" there time on stuff we think isn't that small, because to them, it's still small stuff.

This whole story stinks of lawyer wanting to be the big man. I grant you the officer said something stupid instead of knowing the law, but come on, they are doing their job and the twonk riding non handed down a crazy busy street in a crazy busy city should just pay the fine and move on with his life, bang to rights. Instead, he daily mirrors it and proclaims as loud as he can how it's all such an injustice.

My bike has been nicked in the City of London and yes, it was too small to be dealt with by City Police. Who is this mythical granny getting her purse snatched? Have you been to the City of London? Did you see many grannies?

You're trawling out a host of straw man cliches here. The correct answer is they should be investigating everything on their patch - but I'm not naive enough to think we live in a world where that happens. What I know does happens is Police in London at least (City and Met) love to pick low hanging fruit and make a big show of it. Why is this? Because the job has always attracted bullies is the short answer. I don't believe ACAB but the ratio of good to bad isn't improving it seems.

And yes, anyone cycling in a crowded place no handed is being a bit tw£tty - but its hardly crime of the century and officers should IMHO be on firmer ground before they start spouting off in error, undermining their rep and public confidence in the law into the bargan.

I suspect the age and gender of the perpetrator resulted in greater requirement for legal compliance.

I saw a couple of shirtless guys one wheelying on an e-motorbike the other riding a quad without plates, straight past an assortment of law enforcement, they didn't bat an eyelid.

Many customers are being told now not to bother reporting a bike theft.

I guess we need greater tax revenues to pay for police on the street and law enforcement.

We were in Paris last year, and I didn't see a single gaffer-taped bodge illegal ebike.

In Bristol you struggle to spot a legal one.

I wrote a retort, but to be honest mate, it isn't worth me posting it, it's not going to change your opinion and you aren't going to change mine, so let's just park it before we get in to it, it's not worth it.

come over to the Inn and have a beer.

For balance I will say some kids tried to rob me and other commuters a few years ago and the Met were great. The kids waited at the top of a hill (Fountain Drive / Colleage road Dulwich) for knackered cyclists and then tried to threaten to give up the bike with a stanley knife and a screwdriver. I was lucky to spot them early and did a CX dismount and wheeled the bike up on the back wheel as a shield. Bought me enought time till the other cyclist behind me got there - and thankfully stopped. Police drove from Greenwich at rush hour in 12 minutes(!) and made arrests. I went to Peckham nick and made statements later that night. I can't ask for any more than that really.

I was in London last year to pick a bike up from South London and ride it back up to kings cross from Balham via Clapham Common . From what I saw cyclists had achieved a critical mass and there was a lot of them about . Multiple cyclists running red lights , a messenger guy falling foul of a taxi because the messenger had run a red light . There was plenty of embarrassing lawlessness by cyclists . Yes I have done all the bad stuff when I was younger , now I try to stick to the rules . I think if motorists saw most cyclists obeying the law we ( the cyclists ) would garner more respect and patience from them and find more acceptance . The saying that pissed me off at work was "shit happens " there is always a cause and if you can avoid that cause it's a lot better .
