riding in wales

thanks for the advice guys, afan and cwmcarn i want to avoid because they are the ones i mostly go to, if i'm gonna ride on my own it'll need to be signposted, i like the idea of going north.

crud, sorry my geographic knowledge of wales is really pants, bear in mind i'm from southampton! :D

stew b, i'm not worried about the rally, i'll be in the griffin in london on that day! :D

scant, would be up for a ride guide etc (so you're not a spy then?)but i'm not super fit or anything so you might find my legs a bit slow! although a week or so ago i did the xc loop at cwmcarn followed by the whites level trail in the same day no problem and felt i would have liked to have gone on a little more if i could but got caught by darkness and no lights! i knew there would be loads more trails around cwmcarn but when your not from the area it can be hard to find trails or routes and still know where you are or how to get back to the car parks! so i tend to stay where the trails lead, i'd hate to be the numpty that gets plucked off the side of a mountain at 2.30 in the morning freezing cold clinging to a trailmap saying to myself "it's all that bloody sheeps fault!" over and over!

its a 4 day event with a week prior recce for the teams! so places like builth wells and rhonda will be a no go.

i'm off from the 24th november to the 14th of december so it's not a major problem, could always ride in a different area then go spectate for a while :D

Betws Y Coed and around the Snowdon National Park. Was there three weeks ago and it was awesome. Beautiful scenery, great riding and no one in sight.

I was staying in porthmadog and it was an ideal place. I managed to ride along the beach a few times too, just a breathtakeing place!!

I highly recommend it!!!

I can send you some pics if you like? :D

Brechfa

There's a place called Brechfa near Carmarthen(about 25 miles west of swansea)some really nice very new riding there. Thats about it, all other places i ride you have already mentioned

You could do a weekend in Betws Y Coed, Marin trail one day, Penmachno the next, two very good waymarked rides and Betws is a good base to stay in and ride out from to both trails.

Yes

I think its part funded by Carmarthenshire county council so plenty of signs, free parking, awesome location(middle of nowhere)but no facilities whatsoever, which is a good thing or a bad thing depending on your viewpoint. I prefer it to Afan,I can go there midweek, ride for 2 hours and not see another soul. If you decide to go pop in for a cuppa as you will be passing my front door!
