i'm thinking of going to wales in about 3 weeks, i usually ride afan, cwmcarn and coed y brenin, i like all 3 but i'd like to ride somewhere different this time.

but i have a couple of questions, i've checked out the mtbwales site and seen some of the other places to ride and i like the look of them but the problem i have is i'm crap with offroad maps and i can't afford a gps at the mo! so which centres have waymarked trails that are easy to follow like afan etc. i was thinking the brecon beacons, i rode there years ago but it wasn't waymarked and it was with part of a larger group ride with a guide so it wasn't a problem.

bearing in mind the time of year i'm not looking for massive epic rides but something worthwile :D

anyhelp greatly appreciated :D

I've been along the north coast to anglesea ,nice coast road ,though its been twenty yrs since i was there, prob a motorway now
Theres an idea ,you could start a round Wales coastal path run ,do a bit at a time

The Marin trail up at Betws Y Coed is a nice trail with a mix of 'rea' trails and man made hokum. Well way marked, it is easy to follow. Plenty of facilities in town but none at the trailhead.

am i right in thinking that betws y coed is the brecons near llandryd wells? real ale wobble territory? would have gone to that but i knew i'd be on overtime, 4 days followed by 2 nights, each a 12hour shift, gonna be dead that week!

but 18 days off as of the 24th! :D :D

no! its in north wales!

i live in north wales and its quicker for me to get to london than south wales.

it might be small but theres no road network!

JB,

Afan is great. 3 good loops there. all signed and easy parking etc.

we even managed to get our lot round it on old bikes and old legs and (just) made it back to the car in daylight. :D

Cwm carn and Afan defo. N wales takes an age from the sarf. . . Scants input on this would probably be good, or if you're up for it, he works as an MTB trail guide too. Its well worth paying the pennies to get him to take you round. Thousands invested in the bikes, whats a few more percent is guidance

thanks nick ;)
people go to cwmcarn, ride the trail & dont realise you can ride to brecon 40miles away & only cross 2 roads getting there.. in other words there a LOT of pucka trails outside of the cwmcarn valley & surronding area :)
hook me up if interested ;)
