RH Stick shift front derailleur.

No bottles, no mudguards, 30mm tubulars and the open road.
The Cyclo spec says that FD will handle 20 tooth difference, but you have to position it vertically quite carefully to avoid the chain hitting the vertical cage limits. Bought a work stand to set it properly for 18 tooth difference and it works fine.

13-15-17-20-24-32 + 50/32 and all 12 gears work :)

Very very roughly, the height of the lever on all these originals is more to do with toe-strap pulling height. I think.

There must have been a base to decide what to trade off weight and function wise.

The Huret is a nightmare, means bending down further to change down. Like when you really need that at the foot of a climb to help open up the lungs and look ahead to prepare. The fairly radical altering position of a bike / gear control function is like the worst and would have most certainly was picked up with critique like today and led to it's fast downfall. It is awkward as hell. :D

I get it for a vintage bike. That is what they had to start with and period correct if you are playing with bikes older than some point in time.

I really don't get why anyone would want to fit one to a bike when you could have a little lever that pulls some wire that moves two plates of metal.

It really couldn't be simpler and it baffles me how anyone with even a tiny bit of mechanical know-how can't get that to work. If i couldn't then i would learn how to, really quickly, instead of taking a hand so far away from the handlebars and waggling some metal stick about to change gear .

Even more odd are hipsters running two chainrings and no front mech at all.

"Yeah...like Ronnie...you know....ummmm.....like...i just knock it ....like....of the big ring with my....you know...my foot. Yeah....like....you know....when i want to go....yeah.....from the little ring to the....you know....like....big ring....yeah....i just stop and use my hand....you know. Is that my....you know...like...my flat white to go?"
