It all depends how you interpret the question.

Is the Tesla a better car than a '70s muscle car?

Of course it is and I don't think anyone would argue differently. It's more efficient, handles much better, is more reliable, more comfortable...........the list goes on.

Is it more desirable?

That's a whole different question.

I drive, as my daily motor, a 30 year old Land Rover . I do about 15,000 miles a year in it. I love it to bits & have far more fun driving it than any new car I've driven.

Is it as good as a new car- Hell no! It's got loads of faults and foibles, the build quality is diabolical (much like a lot of 'high end' bike components back in the day) and the design is archaic, it's noisy, uncomfortable, slow and cold.

Would I change it?

Not for anything. But that doesn't mean I can't except that things have improved with time.

Same goes for a 30 year old mountain bke.

We may PREFER old bikes, but we're delusional if we think new bikes aren't better tools for the job.

Re:

Ya - just as nothing really compares to the ruckus and audacious cacophony of a well built 60's/70's American muscle car on the throttle.

Teslas are great and are needed to ween us off diesel and petrol.

I would like one that could cover my 200 mile route everyday without the worry of running out of electrons.

But I like bicycles better and most mainstream new ones dont do it for me.

All bicycles are ferociously practical and many can do far more than is expected of them. Dont forget a century of design lies in a long shadow behind each component. Whats deemed new now was invented and patented decades ago.

I saw a facebook video of guys riding up long stairs on their 'new' mtb's but then remembered a video of a certain GF on his RS-1 doing the same thing over a quarter of a century ago.

I guess after never listening to those who said I was wrong, I've ended up right anyway with riding just what I damn well please and bugger those that say otherwise. Something I can recommend to all.
