Wanted Retaining screws for Sram Apex brake pads.

I fiitted some 2nd hand Apex brakes to my new build they came without pads and when I bought a new set they came with a split pins but the callipers require a specific screw. Looking online so far, I can only see titanium replacements which seems a bit ridiculous. Does anyone know how to get just normal steel screws for my pads or perhaps have a spare set hanging around (having upgraded to titanium perhaps :D ?

Thanks
John

Thanks but mine go into a blind hole so there is nothing showing through which you could put a circlip on. This is part of the problem, I have tried googling Sram Apex 1 brake caliper screw but just generic results for Sram or Avid brake are returned.

Well I didn’t know that, must have changed pin design for the new monoblock brakes.

The circlip is only there as belt and braces. I ran plenty of SRAM brakes without them as they tend to ping away into the magical void under the garage shelves when removing them. The thread looks very similar to the standard parts. I’m pretty sure the standard pins would work, Your only other option is to buy proper retail packs of SRAM pads, which contain all the parts. These can be had for about £16 each if you shop about. Just make sure you to buy them from somewhere showing the full pack and not just oem pads which often just can bare.

I’ve only a couple of spare standard pins myself, but could post you one to try if you pm me your address.

Could you do me a favour and measure the length of your standard pin. I am sure they will be too long to fit but you never know. The thread and pin diameter I am sure will be the same.
Further searching has shown up two other designs, one which I think is the one I need with just a plain end and another with a circlip that fits between the threaded portion and the plain shank that could also fit. But nowhere can I find a diagram with the proper specs or any dimensions on any pins for sale. This makes buying a bit of a lottery.
I think in the end I will just buy the SRAM official replacement with a pin included.

I have now looked at the full SRAM spare parts catalogue and it shows no brakes that require a pin with no circlip. Mine also has the less usual asymmetric pad design, shown in the catalogue but still with the standard circlip pin. This is so frustrating, my Genesis CdF is already to ride apart from this one small detail. :( :( :(

SRAM road pads have always been the same shape, which they also use on their Level brake.
Went to double check mine and right enough they are the same blind hole design. The pads last forever with road use and have only swapped pads once. Checked the pins and they are the same length but the road pins have a narrower diameter and the standard pin won’t go into the blind hole. The circlip does fit between pad and calliper on the inside.
Double checked my spare pads box but my oem road pads only came with springs and circlips not pins.

Thanks that adds some more info to the puzzle. I am completely new to SRAM 99% of the bikes I have had seem to be Shimano, so this is a learning experience!

So just to confirm what I think you are saying is that the pins that you linked to are the right length but they will not fit into the blind hole as they are too large in diameter at the tip. The circlip is designed to fit within the caliper between the inner wall and the pad.
