Hi folks,

I'd like to cut off the rack mounts on one of my bikes. I'm not trying to pass it off as anything else, I just don't need or like them.
The ones at the drop out would be easy enough, but would it be ok to take the top ones off? As long as I'm careful, I can't imagine I would leave any holes. They are brazed onto the tube presumably, not into them?

These ones,

Thoughts appreciated ;)

Re:

I would hacksaw them off and the finish with a file before using emery cloth.

What tubing is it?
i.e. is it some thinnish gauge stuff, or gas pipe.....

I've seen people take them off on ones with a pair of pliers.......

I would learn to live with them. Or get some help.

Or make them into a feature. Eyes or something creative.

What've they done to you?

Hi Mike
Have you got an angle grinder with a slitting disc (1mm cutting disc) its what I'd use. Cut the weld as close to the seat stay on both sides into the boss then gradually take off the rest of the boss and weld clean up with file and emery

Either grind or haksaw off. If brazed then no thinning of tubing, unlike what could happen if welded.

I chopped off v brake bosses on an aluminiunumum frame without any probs.

Re:

I'm thinking of using the angle grinder, but grinding away, not cutting as close as I dare.
Followed by files and emery cloth, as mentioned
