Has anyone any tips on removing original decals without destroying the paintwork underneath. They seem to be under a coat of lacquer.
I'd like to keep the paintwork but replace the decals and re lacquer the Lava Dome in my sig.

Any tips for or against this idea welcome.

I did mange to remove lacquered decals by warming them with a hair dryer and scraping with a credit card as a scraper. I suppose it would depend on thickness of the laquer.

But be warned it will inevitably leave an unlacquered area which may detract from the finish. (may not be a problem if you're re-lacquering)

I would be tempted to try a un-obtrusive area / decal first.

Pictures below of the bike I built for my brother stripped of its decals. (Headtube, downtube, toptube and seatstays)
