Deore LX shifter not working

Spray with WD40 and get a tiny screw driver under the part circles and raise/lower it. Even better if you can spray it at the same time. Just did mine yesterday. It definitely isn’t broken.

That looks a lovely bike, had one when new, it’s a springy frame and light wheels so it flys!!! Tyres look good but ride awful in my opinion.

Had another go. Inside was /is clean as a whistle.

This time I lifted the whole mechanism out of the plastic and removed the cable.

Played around a little and hey presto everything is clicking and pulling cables like it should.

Fixed!

...now, what was somebody saying about now squirting white grease in?

White grease spray.... somebody recommend i should now lube the shifters (after all that WD40 / GT85

But after a quick Google, some seem to say white grease can harden and clog up things like shifters.

What to do for the best?

Good point. It seems if the shifters are in regular use there is not a problem but being stored and not used causes issues.

I tend to just use GT spray which is a lubricant and have not had any recurring problems.

I generally go for a spray grease, but not white grease.

A drop of chain oil will be a lot better than nothing.
