Removing cigarette smell from house

My parents bought a house a few years ago that stank of cigarettes. Once they had got rid of all the carpets and cleaned the house thoroughly it was fine

Get a wet Labrador or two to wander round the house and keep it damp with a plant mister, that'll do.

On a more serious note, mates had the same issue (fag smell not fish or wet dog). They repainted, good clean then rather than junk the carpets as they were in good condition they got a professional carpet cleaning firm to come in and work their magic. Did the trick.

My sister moved into a house that could only be described as revolting!! :shock: , we stripped everything out (carpets were the stinkers!!) washed the walls (sugar soap) and aired the house for a week ... You would never of knowed after that

The garden was another story!! :shock:

i would say wet vac the carpets or get a frim in to do it too. as for the paint,yep start again is the best bet.

Having worked in a couple of pubs as the non smoking act came in, I can fairly safely say it's the soft furnishings that suck up the smell and hold on to it. Get rid of any fabric stuff you can, otherwise you'll keep getting the odd whiff now and again....

On paintwork, sugar soap works a treat, but if it's really stained it can be a particularly grim job as the recycled contents of someone elses lungs dribbles down your arms.... :shock: :shock: :shock:

Try and avoid air fresheners/odour maskers as the only thing worse than smelling poo is smelling poo and air freeshener, if you see what I mean!!! Fresh air works wonders
