I have just received a frame I bought off ebay unfortunately there is a sheared off bolt in one of the braze ons for mudguards and pannier racks. Is it possible to get this out and still have usable threads left

Thanks

My first ebay problem ever :(

Get a screw extractor and wind it in slowly, by hand. As it bites into the broken screw, it will wind it out of the frame: Job done.

Those extractors DM mentioned are very good. Do they make them that small though?

Worst case answer is carefully drill it out and tap the next size thread into the resulting hole. Even I managed this recently so it can't be too tricky.

Personally I'd give it some plus-gas and a wait for a day or so. Then I'd centre punch it and drill the middle with a 2mm bit. In all likelihood the drill will bind with the bolt and turn it, winding it inwards through the dropout hole.

you should be able to get an extractor that small - i used them alot on snapped cantilever boss bolts in the workshop (M6), i'm sure there was M5 too. drill a small pilot hole and wind the extractor in. Caution though, if you attempt one of these and the extractor snaps in the drilled bolt then you have a problem

It might be a bit small for an Easy Out bolt extractor, I don't have one that small. A left handed drill might spin it out.
