Rehab-late '60's Robin Hood 5-speed

Retro Newbie
Good evening,

This bike has a SA model S-5 5-speed hub--stamped 67.

I've attached some pictures. The bike needs a complete overhaul.

My 2 Q.

1. The bike has those useless top tube shifters which are coming off. I'm thinking of replacing them with handlebar mounted thumb shifters. I believe that I'll need to replace both shift cables with the newer style that are 2-piece - - where the shift cable mates with the hub chain/bell crank. Any helpful suggestions are appreciated.

2. Anyone have a picture of a home-made cotter pin extractor.

Many thanks.

You can use a Sturmey Archer 3speed thumb shifter on the right and a SunRace left side friction thumb shifter for the left side Hi-Lo shift. Use the socket and vice method to remove the cotter pins..👍

Or you could use an SA stem mounted twin shifter, they usually go for about £15 on ebay.
