I've recently bought this:

...I mainly use the bike for getting to/from work during the week, and for riding local trails at the weekends with my girlfriend. As you can see from the picture, it's a beauty and it's pretty much all original. However I'd prefer to sell the tyres (Kona 'Mr Dirt' and 'The Cleaner' in case anyone is interested ;)) while they're still in great condition, and get something that rolls a little quicker on tarmac/hardpack without going down the slick route. Unfortunately I can't afford to keep the tyres and buy another set :(

What would you recommend? Preferably I'd like something from the same sort of era ('94/'95) but it's not absolutely essential. Ta :)

leave the tyres - they are the OE spec. and suit the bike the best

just joking

how about Tioga City Slicker or IRC Geo Claw ? Had them on my commuter in the 90s, both skinwalls. Fast rolling on asphalt, but tricky on loose ground. Or Ritchey Tom Slick in blackwall - no experience with them, but recommanded from leading bike mags BITD :)

Edit: should have read more carfully  Semi slicks could also be a solution for you. Running smooth on tarmac, and giving some kind of traction on the try loose surface. Michelin, Corratec and Ritchey do them BITD

Perhaps I'll keep the tyres as spares if I can find the money somewhere to buy another set ;)

Specialized Crossroads - still make modern version too. Were standard fitting on my 1987 Saracen Tufftrax and a great compromsie between on and off road provided you don't get too muddy!

Wildgrippers are a good retro choice either sprint or comp :) green with skinwall or amber or black with skinwall
