recommend me a tyre.

I have the Panaracer Fire XC pro on my bike and they are good all rounder. Used them a few times myself around rivington and they've been great.

Picture here on top of rivington with the fire xc's

recently purchased another set of single compound fire XC pro's from wiggle at £14.21 each.

Not that I know bugger all about these things, as I only have limited experience, but I bought Schwalbe Black Jacks for mine based on reviews online. When I went out the other day they coped with dry tracks, hard pack, wet mud, rocks and dry tree roots fine. They didn't grip as well as some I'm sure but they did ok for me.

They have a kevlar layer too for puncture protection, and they only cost £13 each so bit of a bargain tbh...

Worth a look anyway ;-)

I found these about three years ago and have stuck with them ever since. Not brilliant on wet roots or heavy clay, but seem to cope with just about everything else. I have had a problem with tearing side walls on rocks, but that's more crap riding than the tyre. They do 1.9s which seem to be becoming harder to find. And they're cheap. :)

Hi

Well here is my input! It really does depend on your conditions...I love Onza Porcupines in the dry sandy gravelly loose stuff, but crap in the wet...Seeing as we have had such a sh**ty summer I've found myself more often than not in sticky mud! Tried a few tyre set ups including High rollers. They were ok good at keeping the tred free of mud but wheelspan at low gear ratios in the loose wet stuff. I've currently got Panaracer XC Fire pro which are far better and get great traction! So they would get my vote...No tyre will ever do what you want it to but with the right tyre choice it can really transform your experience...

I logged on to ask the very same question, "what Tyres" after reading this thread the only question is the 1.8 or the 2.1 xc pro both available on wiggle, I have a '94 giant bronco with pace rc35 front shocks. Riding mainly purpose built mtb tracks around Dublin ie ticknock and ballinastoe but will be doing a little more off road during the winter, not to sure where yet so no sure of conditions to expect but sufise to say its Ireland so muddy !!!!

Any suggestions appricated,
Ps sorry for little thread hijack but at least it's on topic

thanks for the suggestions, lots to consider.
but at the moment i have used a set of conti sport contacts for road use.
but the schwalbe black jacks look like a good tyre.

Big Schwalbe fan here. My 3-speed in the profile pic runs on Delta Cruisers and I use LandCruisers on my MTB when its working (grrr)

Tough. Properly tough.

If lots of mud then go for the thin tyre on the back at least. I usually run 2.1 / 2.0 front and 1.9 / 1.8 rear. I had problems with Fire XCs sliding on the rims, taking the tubes with them and ripping the valves out, tried everything to get round this and eventually bought a Black Jack to try out for a ride in snow at Macclesfield Forest. It performed brilliantly and I've stuck with them ever since.
