rechargable battery help req'd

I have a number of dewalt 12v batteries that do not take a charge any more. On ebay there are loads of advice you can buy (usually from the US) of how to bring these back to life with out changing the cells.

Being a tight arse, I was hoping someone else has either bought this advice and would like to share it, or already knows the secret.Or maybe it is just not possible.

The advice points towards NiCd batteries.Not sure if mine are NiMd or NiCd. Either way got nothing to loose.

ANy good advice on how to bring these back ?
