rebuilt Brodie Expresso, new brodie project

hi jeff
thanks for the excellent pictures. if i could ask for a couple more just for fun. :)
head tube junction, the drop outs and an overall of frame please.

well there is definetely no (.) in front of that serial number.
i see it has the pump peg on the seat stay. that is an early characteristic.
but if no dot i was expecting to see all that beautiful fillet brazing.
of which there is none. all the welds are tig. so i am completely baffled now.
all romax's are supposed to be fillet brazed. that is what sets it apart
from the sovereign's. only thing i can suggest is there is an error in paul's records.
i hope we hear from others on this topic. is oliver out there following all this? :)
i'm no help.

also can you tell me, is the down tube slightly ovalized at the head tube?
or is it perfectly round the whole distance?
roy

Here are a few more (poor quality - damn iphone) pictures.
The down tube at the head tube does not appear to be ovalized.
The dropouts are shimano.

Perhaps this bike was tig welded due to the fact that it was (perhaps) built for Brent Martin as Paul stated? That it was destined to be abused?

Regardless the current plan is to paint it as close to Imron dark grey metallic as possible (PB indicated that this was the original colour) and then only have "bro" on one side and "die" on the other as per Brent Martin's bike. If nothing else it will be a nice clone. Romax or catalyst, I think we can agree it's a brodie.

As I mentioned I will have an RM Hammer frame available some time soon if anyone is looking.

regards
Jeff

It's been blasted and is in the paint shop as we speak.

A few blemishes but hopefully the dark grey metallic will hide most of them.

Got the frame back from paint, looks good though not as dark or as metallic-y as I was hoping.

Re:

That frame looks virtually identical to mine (an '89 Romax). How bout an up-date on the progress ... ?

Not really an update, but I just thought I'd mention that jhoreth has passed the torch of ownership on to me, and I am happy to have this lovely Expresso in my care. Some minor tweaks and it'll be on the trails again. Good dirty fun!
