Rear shocks

The shock on my stumpie fsr appears to be past its best which is unsurprising as its never been serviced since I've had it. Would servicing be a home job or specialist? Or would it be worthwhile trying to source a modern shock? Its a Fox air vanilla float. Any advice appreciated

What psi are you running?

Reason I ask is SPESHMIKE had Specialized look at his at MM, and told him he should be running 300psi in it.......

A bit :shock: as he used to only run 100-150 psi

Try banging a bit more psi in it first, before stripping her.

300psi :shock: my shock pump only goes up to 200psi! I was told (for my shock at least - Strata Shock) it should be 1psi per lb in rider weight i.e. if you weigh 180lbs it should be 180psi, but I guess that varies by shock?

Cheers pickle, 300 sounds a bit much :shock: at 100 I was getting a bit of a kangaroo back end and at 150 its a bit notchy maybe a bit of stiction. The solution is obviously try 125 :roll: which I'll give a go.

I'd say play it by ear, but just dont be scared to bang a bit more air in it

It will always vary depending on frame design/shock in question. You can service the aircan on the Fox float shocks yourself. A full strip down is a return to Mojo, which costs about £70 from memory. Are there any marks on the shaft?

No nicks the shafts in good cond, had a lizard skin on from the start.

Idiot question here, what controls the suspension and the dampening? Spring/air, oil/air or summat?

Fantastic, had had a look around the fox site but didn't catch the videos

Next question, is is it worth servicing or picking up something a bit more modern from ebay?
