Raleigh titanium seatpost size?

Hi Marcel,

I know it was years four ago when you were in demand. The frame is from 1994. The frame number should begin with D, analogous to the first torus framework. Only 1993 and 1994 Titan were models on sale for Raleigh United States. In 1995, the MCC carbon were recorded as top models framework in program. I think not a good decision.

Best regards from Mainhattan

Thanks mate,
In the mean time I did find a Retro Syncros in 29.8 and this fits perfectly!

Cheers!

As others have said, I bet that 29.8mm is the correct diameter. At least for '94 MTi1000. Yes, 30.0mm Syncros fits (just tried). But 29.8mm Accent fits too. Moreover, if you look at Tioga catalogue [1], DL2001 seat pillar max diameter is 29.8mm. And Tioga was OEM for MTi1000 (DL2000 seat pillar and not DL2001, I recognize).

My Torus has a very thin internal shim and factory fitted post marked at 30.0, fits perfectly and I would bet all the tea in china this is the correct size for the frame. Mine is a D-Reg :)

Also supplied a friend of mine with another 30.0 post for his Torus, which also fit perfectly.

Just checked with a numeric caliper: inner diameter of the stock glued shim in my Raleigh MTi1000 is 29.76mm, so definitely 29.8mm. Though I was able to put a Syncros 30.0 seatpost without a problem...

That is lovely. What a nice colour.

It should be 30.0mm, did you measure in only one place as it may be oval.
Measuring again, starting just to the left of the cut at the back of the shim, up to just at the right of the cut in the shim, I get (clockwise):
- 30.04mm
- 29.70mm
- 29.50mm
- 29.28mm
- 29.35mm
- 29.69mm
- 29.76mm
- 30.07mm
I've reset calibration before each measurement. So you're right, the shim is oval. But the only times measurements were close to 30mm were immediately to the left and right of the cut at the back of the shim.

That being said, a caliper is not the adequate tool to determine the diameter of any tube, but I don't have such a tool at hand:
