Raleigh Road Ace Frame and forks

Find it strange that Raleigh were putting cable guides on top of the BB in 1984 when my 1982 Gran Sport has the more modern method ?

I did wonder why these were a thing and permanent one too
Obviously its cable routing but it looks cluttered and a bit agricultural.
I think Raleigh could have put some more thought into the design, i’m sure this has been discussed in depth.
Have these guides been used on SBDU frames or have I seen something else - I will have a look

Evening all,
I have decided to go with 105 Golden Arrow for the parts on my Road Ace.
Fate stepped in after I had already thought about it.
Golden Arrow front mech in my stash of random parts date stamp 1981 - cleaned up very nicely.
Golden Arrow is sort of period and affordable.
Also a very decent Shimano free wheel from 1986
This is the indexed flavour, will it work with friction non indexed rear mech?
Also the bottle cage will go nicely onto my Quadra

I have often wondered which Campag is best, Disralli gears fairly slates them - bit like emperor's new clothes.
Which Campag group set best from 1983 thru to 1990? I cannot seem to work it out?
Discuss :)

I'm with Disralli gears, some people love them. A 1950-60s bike, gran sport all the way. After that the Japanese produced better functioning derailleurs IMO. I have a Campag large flange hub fetish though, also like their, chainsets, bottom bracket and headsets.
The mech will work fine with that freewheel.
