i cant say what is orginal and what isnt, i dont know that brand of the wheels. i think it was (badly) reapinted red and was possibly a light green colour. can anyone help identify this? also, before i go off to the xyz thread, can anyone guess a price? i might rebuild it yet, im unsure, it needs work of course, due to all the rust and stuff. the seatpost came out quite easily. there is no code on bb shell. if you can identify this do you know what parts are correct for it/what it shouldve/wouldve had orginally? is this an alright retrobike? its quite big, not sure of size though, didnt measure. maybe around 19inch (ish). sorry i didnt do a whole picture, when searching retrobike though, there is another raleigh montage (if this is) and it looks identical really :? is it steel (think so :) )? is it worth a bit of tlc? is this a lugged frame?
cheers

I had one that was light green and 19'' the kit looks correct to. The Raleigh name stamp on the seat stay is also the same

i think i found another on here, through google. i think the colour was 'mint green'
the other i saw on here was single speed, im not sure which direction to take this now?
im very well chuffed with it, my first retrobike! im down with the kids now!
actually, im down with the adults cus im probably one of the youngest

i think its a keeper :D i have been wanting a retrobike for some time...

I like my Monty. Rode well. Would be a nice project. And repaint it the correct shade of green. After the green it went light blue.
Good find. 8)

light blue was the next model colour? i think this will be my project now :D

so its not a pile of poo then?
and it is everything i suggested above? :D

Reynolds 501 Magnum, from the Raleigh "Lightweight" division. Lightweight in quotes for a reason you've probably guessed already. :P

The Suntour stuff is original equipment and gloriously incompatible with Shimano. They're a nice bike, well designed, with good geometry.

I would just get it rideable again. You will haemorrhage money trying to restore that, and as a minter it isn't worth very much anyway; you'll be disappointed if you decide to sell.

ah i see, i think i wll just do that then. make it a rider. not sure whether to get it painted or not though? it needs it. any diy suggestions?

Look at Jimi Hendrix's guide to rattle can paint jobs in the FAQ section, his bikes always turn out nice. Other than that clean it up and get it rideable like my three Raleigh MTB's, not one is concourse but all are functional and fun :D

I'd check over those tubes carefully, I can make out some wriggle rust from the pictures and some around the lugs. Give it all a firm tap to make sure nothing is paper thin before riding it.

velomaniac, will have a look, cheers for the heads up

easyrider, wriggle rust? from the inside out im guessing? what are the signs i need to look out for?
