Raleigh Max Cro-Mo II Headset bearing size?

Can anyone help please?

Just picked up an absolute bargain for my lad, a green Raleigh Max cr-mo II (for £11.50, yes! £11.50!!).

Fitted an inner tube and it's pretty much good to go. The headset feels as if the bearings need changing so can anyone help with telling me how to change them and what type and size I should fit please?

Bargain! Very much underrated, those Max frames. Strong, well made and well designed.

If memory serves, that takes a 1" headset. To check, measure the stem diameter. If it is 22.2mm, it's a 1". If it's 25.4mm, it's 1 1\8".

Here's an article with far more information than you need. You will probably only need to replace the bearings. You'll need headset spanners:
