 Another crap bike has arrived at Stupido towers.

Actually it doesn't get much more nostalgic for me than this - the Maverick is pretty much the start of my awareness of "ATBs" and mountain biking.

I justified this purchase on the basis of the pretty decent rear wheel and nice black MT-60 chainset, which are both obviously later additions, and which safely cover the purchase price. I reckon it's been upgraded to SIS gearing at some point... only online photo I can find shows this era Maverick with Huret mechs front and rear. This one has a Huret on the front.

Ooh what shall I do with it? For starters obviously I'll pump up the tyres and attempt to ride it around the block... it would be pretty amusing to turn up with it at the local trail centre... but whether I'd make it round is another matter.

Re:

Right, as promised I've pumped up the tyres and ridden it round the block. I also removed some tat, and checked it wasn't going to kill me. Everything came undone pretty easily... so my guess is it's not seen too much weather.

Predictably enough, I love it. It's mega comfy but surprisingly quick handling. It's heavy, obviously, but it seems to get up to speed OK.

I've decided I'm going to keep it and get it back into a half decent state...
