Reynolds 531 and 501 are Chromolly steel tubes that are much lighter with a degree of spring in them but also somewhat pricier.

Being pedantic, 531 was more of a manganese moly alloy. 500 was chromoly, and probably 501 was.

He's right, nothing wrong with pedantry here, 500 is seamed tubing as is 501 I believe but 531 definitely the best

You dont happen to know the size of the steerer? I could probably find out but it would be easier to be told . Also, what do you think about buying some 700x23 forks for the front and whacking on a racing wheel? I was convinced it was a hybrid and have now bought drop bars, etc...

Please don't do that. There a tons of old road bikes around if that's what you want. Hang fire on the Mustang stickers as well, don't think it ever would have had them.

My Raleigh White Lightnin is made of 653 I think but could be wrong, its 6 something something

I'll post up pics of the MTB Team 531 when I get a chance as I have not got delivery of it yet

Thats three Raleigh MTB's I have now, its becoming addictive, on top of the four Raleigh road frames :roll:

Rare as like the guy points out most of the Banana's are the cheap ones with hi-ten tube sets and huret gears.

Thats a beauty but alas out of my price range by this time of the month, my size to, typical :roll:

White Lightnin is 653 and currently my favourite mtb until I rebuild one of my numerous others
