Retro Newbie
Hi, I'm new to the group and I'm looking for info on restoring a retro I've just had from a guy from work, Raleigh dynatech odyessey 2070 1991, I'm excited to have a project but this really is new to me and I don't even know what is best to clean it up with other than standard muc off, has anyone got tips on getting her gleaming again and if it's still possible to get original Raleigh paints
Thanks in advance Si
I will up load some photos when I have enough posts under my belt

Re:

As per BentRims says, search is best bet. If you are new to retro, you'll quickly understand that SEARCH is a massive part of the process. I live around the corner from former home of Raleigh, I'd say chances of getting hold of paint will be neigh on impossible. In terms of cleaning greased up bits, I find GUNK is good, however keep it away from rubber and plastics and also off of tarmac driveways as it eats tarmac. In terms of cleaning frames, I find a good polish and smothering of Carnuba Wax or similar is good.

Generally think along the same lines of detailing cars etc. As a general rule when I come across a nice retro bike, providing I have time I give it a good bath, tear it down (ensuring the bottom bracket and seatpost comes out and give the parts a good look over for cracks/structural damage - frame welds, fork crowns, dropouts, around the cranks and pay CLOSE attention to handbars where they are clamped etc. If you like what you find then set about polishing and further tear down of hubs and headset and hopefully you're Raleigh will be good for another 27 years :)
