Well....I thought I would share with you my recent find....

A Raleigh Dyna Tech Diablo DX Titanium - With period XT mechs/chainset

and some apparently quite rare campagnolo front cantis?

The yellow painted pieces are a little tired in places, but the rest of it is really good for the year (1992?)

Pic taken - exactly as i bought it - not even cleaned yet!

Whats it worth - any ideas?

And whats the thinking behind the bolt at the top of the seatstay, was this for ease of manufacture or to provide some give?

it is an iconic paint job from a period when raleigh usa was in a different league to the stuff being pumped out of my lbs....the frame consists of steel lugs bonded onto ti tubing to offer titanium at a more reasonable price and i suspect that is the thinking behind the bolted seat stays too....there are however higher authorities than myself lurking in these parts.....nice bike, i hope you enjoy it!...

The lugs are actually aluminium castings and the BB section has steel inserts for the threads. The main tubes are rolled and seam welded titanium rather than the more expensive extrusions. The full tube decal hides the seam. It's not really a decal though as it is printed directly onto the tubing in a process similar to that used for printing drinks cans.
The rear triangle on the Diablo is cro-mo and has a lovely compliant spring to it. In fact they ride really nicely indeed.
The bolt on seat-stay design was probably to ease manufacture, but also looks great too.

Lovely bike and very distinctive.
HarryCrumb's is a fine example to look at for inspiration.

Nice ride, iirc on my 94' Diablo only the top & down tubes are Ti, there should be a serial number stamped on the bottom bracket shell, find that and then go over to the "Dynatech Appreciation And Information" thread.

Raleigh USA made the Technium range at a time when the special products division were making handbuilt 531/653 bikes in Nottingham. The Dynatechs were their answer to the Techniums (which were bonded Aluminium/Cr-Mo) and handbuilt in the UK, the handbuilt traditional bike continued for maybe a couple of years after the Dynatech range was introduced.
