Raleigh Dune Dancer - which year / spec?

Just been out to the garage and had a look .....

It is indeed Deore LX as follows ....

Hubs : HB-M550
Rear Mech : RD-M550
Front Mech : FD-M550
Cranks (Silver with black rings) : FC-M550
Canti Brakes : BR-M650
STI units : Can't read the writing on them !

Other stuff ...

Rims : Mavic M261CD
Head set : Tiago Avenger
Seat post clamp : Miche
Seat post : Sakae
Saddle : Vetta (worn out)

I recon it must be about 1990. Certainly earlier than my '93 Marin Nail Trail.

It's an ok bike. I like the 501 frame. I've got an '83 Raleigh Scirroco road bike with 501 and it's excellent.

Thanks Hawman.

I'm with you on 501, it's the reason I bought the frame. It's certainly not the lightest tubeset around, but it does ride nice

Here's a photo of mine taken in the dark before I've had a chance to clean the bike up. (clickable )

Thanks and Dune Dancer

Hi, I just wanted to say thanks to you lot as all your comments which I stumbled upon when doing a general pc search on Dune Dancer.

I bought one last week off Ebay and bar tyres, seat and seat post it's all in original condition, even down to Deore LX hubs and pedals. It's the aqua blue one and is in fabulous condition aesthetically and mechanically. Looks like it was well looked after and little used.

I've changed the straight black handlebars for upward curving silver ones, put on alloy mudguards and a seat that has the exposed springs. It now has a sort of beach cruiser look to it. I think it looks cool in the original sense of the word and indeed when I walked around a local market had appreciative comments from strangers and looks!
