well sorry for thinking this was a retro bike forum!

Personally my thing is collecting retro games and consoles and to be honest even the worst of the worst of games that where produced (especially in the condition this bike is in) are generally much sought after or at least appreciated....

Some people like them, someone's got a build thread going re an Activator II right now:

It is great you have one in box fresh condition as very few probably exist in such condition, I still see them about as Raleigh must have sold thousands. Suspension for the masses. To my mind any bike is better than no bike and we all have views on what we do and don't like. I'd not choose to spend my money on an Activator of any kind but they do bring back nostalgia from my youth so thank you for showing us such a good condition one.

Retrobike may not be the selling platform for it but put it on eBay on a Thursday evening listed for ten days and with a 99p start price and I'm sure it will sell, won't fetch much but at least you'll be sure the new owner wants it.

Just my two pence worth :D

Don't take offence mate :D ..it is just a light hearted play on the forum's commonly accepted term of endearment for the Raleigh (see links). It is appreciated for what it is and was no doubt alot of forum members first introduction to mountain biking.

This thread has 3 pages in one afternoon. Some chats don't ever get that far, so while it may not have great value it would appearto be of interest!

Must say I'm interested in how much you get for this in the end.

Cheers,

My sentiments exactly. Although not top of the line or much sought after, it is a retro bike nonetheless and to have a new one is unheard of.

but from my meetings and contact with this site and like most chatrooms with a single hobby. Here most are bike 'snob' and wouldn't be seen dead on this mtb even if nib. A fair few here wouldn't be seen dead on my bike either.
If he had found a NIB Klein then he would be fighting them off to buy. Such is life

No snobbery as such just that it was perhaps the most cynical and lazy attempt by a company to cash in on something.

If it hadnt have come with plastic brake levers or nylon coated heavy monkey cranks or 21.1mm stem or chrome rims or just the shittiest components known to the cycling world.

Its was a cheap gimmick bike at the time, but its holds a place in our culture so it now has a value beyond its usefulness.

A bit like Klein bikes, yeah they were good back then, but now they are massively over valued relative to lots of other good stuff. Thats because of their place in our culture.

I'd say the Activator is as much a cultural icon as the Klein. Someone will want a NOS Activator....
