Raleigh 125th anniversary special Record Ace

Just spotted this online, some pics pics taken at the Taipei Show. Loads of nice little touches!

531 tubing, down-tube shifters, heron stamp on the cranks, quill stem , exposed brake cables, reproduction decals.

Update: on the his-res pics you can make out that the front mech and calipers are Shimoano 105, so it seems reasonable to expect the rear mech and probably gear levers are as well. No idea on the brake levers though.

All in all, I like it! I'm not 100% sold on the randonneur bars, but they undeniably suit the bike and it's more my personal taste than anything. The brake calipers are too modern and angular for the rest of the build though, but that would be a fairly easy swap for something just a bit more classical.

I wonder when we might get to see one in Europe? Does anyone have any contacts with Raleigh UK?

Cheers,
Gareth.

Looks very promising, and hopefully the start of a Raleigh revival.

Rk.

Agreed!
Remember the days when EVERYONE had a raleigh of some sort?!
For me the heyday of Raleigh was the lovely (team panasonic esp) frames they made in the 80's. Wonder if they can ever get back the old reputation....

Like so many modern retro-styled bikes it doesn't quite work for me - close, but no cigar.
What is going on with that funny little rack at the back?
And have they really split the rear mudguard under the brake bridge or is it my poor eyesight?

Mark.

Nice to see the heritage being promoted too...some firms would pay a fortune for that history.

Even enthusiasts know little about Raleigh competition successes - Raleigh's Palmares.

That rack is most likely a saddlebag support.

I really don't like "retro" style bikes with the modern frame sizing/set-up.

I quite like it, but couldn't they have either brazed on a front mech hanger, or used a band on mech? that adaptor just looks very out of place!

Will it come to the UK or just for Raleigh America.Have you ever looked at how many steel bikes they have in the line up ,10 it seems.

Raleigh UK are importing the Clubman and the Sojourn but would they be brave enough to bring the International in.

Doing the Record Ace in Team Raleigh red and black livery seems a bit confused! The white one they did a couple of years back was a bit nearer the mark. Still, you'd think there were markets for UK versions......
