Alright if your down that way i suppose i have something similar localto me that is supposed to be owned by Sustrans but gets used as a kids pub and dogs toilet in sections have to watch for broken bottles when on it and tits on scrambler bikes but other that the problems its alright

Sustrans is a charity I've long supported and isn't generally responsible for the up keep, and doesn't actually own the vast majority of the National Cycle Network. Normally Sustrans will work closely with other partner agencies like Local Authorities and Councils on projects like this. Ongoing day to day maintenance is usually the responsibility of the Local Council's Highways Dept. As such if you do find problems on the network you should report it to the council directly, or report it to Sustrans who will then report it to the council for you.

Sustrans also relies on Volunteer Rangers to be 'the eyes and ears' of their local section of NCN a tidy up where practical and liase with other stakeholders where appropriate.

I agree though, that there are plenty of sections on the NCN that suffer from abuse and neglect, which is rather annoying at times.

i havent been on many trails that they maintain so havent got much to compare to Liverpool probably has 3 or 4 trails in its vicinity, dont get me wrong some sections are spot on others you just want to get through as quick as possible but i imagine its like that on them all.

If the one local to me was maintained better i think it would be more popular and given its a 10 mile stretch from end to end its a decent treck, and links at one end onto the trans pennine trail.

I live near these but TBH will probably just carry on cycling along the canal. Got to be a good thing for commuters but my concerns are with bums hanging out in there, flytipping and of course, scrotes trying to nick your bike.

Old railway tunnels with cycle paths through them are great, we have several up here around edinburgh and midlothian. A particularly fab one is on the 'Innocents Railway'(nobody died in its construction hence name) as it passes under the edge of Holyrood park. Its very long, dead straight and slopes downward. Enter at the top and speed downward in the gloom flat out with your whoops of delight echoing around you, pure magic 8)

The Devon ones are great too. Fabulous fun tunnels that made a Devon C2C trip great fun when I did it with my kids last year.

A pal of mine used to be a Sustrans ranger in Sunderland. There was always a problem with the signs being stolen - so bad that one day when he was out putting the signs back up, the ones he had fitted in the morning were already gone by the time he went back past them in the afternoon.
