R.E.W. Reynolds - '60s - '70s (?)

Beardos

Dirt Disciple
Hey guys.

Here's my R.E.W. Reynolds that I got from our very own biggs682.

62cm frame. Phoenix 101 tubing. Nervex (?) lugs. Campagnolo Record front and rear mech. biggs682 estimated '60s or '70s, which makes sense to me, but I'm no expert, so I'd love to hear if anyone has any more precise a guess. Also unsure as to what component might be original?

Got some Weinmann 500 side-pulls I want to switch the centre-pulls for

No idea if any stamped on details would help with dating...

Like the colour combo :). Frame looks like 70's with the Crespera looking lugs from the manufacture whose name has gone completely out of my head but made the concord lug series.

For a similar frame Google 1970 Mercian Campionissimo :)

Lugs by Haden, just remembered. Your Weinmann 500's might not have the reach as they are quite a small caliper.

Bottom bracket is made by Davis.

Re:

Thanks for the reply Shaun.

So early '70s is as good a guess as any you think?

I've added some black cotton handlebar tape (tressostar). Will try fitting the 500s. The 999s are right on the limit as it is.

Do you have any experience with Phoenix tubing, I read somewhere is was an aviation materials company trying it's hand at tubing for bikes.

I wonder if that phoenix sticker was added after? Like Birmetals (another company) I recall they were later than perhaps the date the frame was made.

Good move on the Tressostar tape :)

beardos i was told when i purchased the frameset all the components were original , so apart from wheels , stem , bars and saddle which were parts i replaced .

i have also since been told the R.E.W made quite a few frames in Phoenix tubing for what ever reason in the mid to late 70's .

its quite strange but i actually miss that bike it rode so well , i have a slightly smaller R.E.W that i have high hopes for so will see

Re:

Thanks for the input biggs682.

Do you think an estimate of early to mid '70s would be most likely for the frame?

It does indeed ride very nicely! Only gone for a few short rides so far (weather permitting of course).
