Quill Pedals?

Its me again, with another inane question
I've heard of quill stems, and (presumably) they are called quill stems because they wedge expander end is shaped like a quill. (feel free to correct me if this is wrong)
So what is a quill pedal? Is it just an umbrella term for pedals with adjustable bearings? I've seen it a few times recently but couldn't actually see a coherent explanation of what makes a pedal a quill pedal.

It’s just the shape of the pedal body, nothing to do with the spindle or bearings.
I guess it’s just a quill shape. Track or Pista pedals are similar in appearance but don’t have the fancy end.

BITD the clever money was on Kyokuto Pro Ace . Looked like campag SL but way cheaper LOL

I used to cut the quil off, but had Miche and Gipiemme rather than Campag pedals, spared no thought as to what they might have been worth 30 years later! little wonder that I actually kept them after transitioning to Look pedals, then Time for the extra float.
There’s some nice MKS Sylvan campag copies on eBay from Italy and also some blingy track pedals from the same company.

MKS Sylvan don't seem to have changed for 40 plus years ! Look good, do the job and not a silly price
