Quick!!! Get your fuel before the panic buying starts!

Nothing like a well balance DM headline to avert panic and fear

Guy from the manufacturers assciation (forget what they are called) and Local MEP was on the radio this morning basically saying that they beleive lost production can be absorbed by existing refineries

I chuffin hat the Daily Mail

First of all, I am sure there is enough redundancy in the rest of the UK refineries to absorb this and not affect supply.
Secondly, it's the parent company going bust. If the refinery is seen as a good money making enterprise I am sure, BP or Shell or Exxon-Mobil or Chevron or Saudi-Aramco or one of the other myriad of oil companies will step in and buy it.

Typical Daily Mail scare-mongering.

Yup,
Said MEP this morning, stated that while the company (refinery) was leading the way in efficiencies and management, the swiss parent company was somewhat lacking....

Wouldnt be surprised if the next Mail headline reads
FUEL SHORTAGE CANCER LINK

G

Not read the link because the Daily Fail turns my stomach but I've noticed the local price has gone up 2p in the last week

That'll be more to do with panic in the market as a result of the Iran situation and the Strait of Hormuz.... no doubt the Govt here are rubbing their hands at the prosepct of higher prices, with their income from our taxes being dictated in part by the price we pay at the pumps

Yes.

"And if things couldn't get any worse, it started spitting..."

I should have made myself clearer. do you pay the VAT on the price of just the litre of fuel, or on the sum of the fuel and the taxes. Here the fuel is about 35p. There's another 30p of taxes, then there's our 13% VAT paid on that 65p (about 8p) for a total of about 72p/l.
