Is it ok to put an mtb cassette on a road wheel? both shimano ig. Just bought wheels for gerald that came with a 8sp 22T that would literally kill me to ride :P Thinking of buying any old shimano 8sp to stick on there? Any issues other than style wise?

thanks

I don't see a problem with that. You can stick road cassettes on MTB wheels (case in point - DH riders who use close ratio road cassettes) so I don't see why it wouldn't work the other way around so long as the cassette type is the same :D

Yes, although make sure the mech can handle the much larger change in chain length.

Good point :)

It's never usually a problem using a road cassette on a MTB because the mech cage is usually longer than that of a road mech.

Thanks. Old wheels were running a non shimano 28 so a 30 should be ok as long as I don't go big big.
