as some of you may remember at the Cannock ride i was taking pics and in places videos aswel.

when i got home and tried to upload it the video footage wouldn't upload to the laptop (macbook pro if it makes a difference)

the camera is a panasonic lumix fz38, when i plugged it in the pictures uploaded no problem as before but the vids didn't upload automatically. with my old little camera they always used to upload just as easy as pics, just plug it in and the laptop did the rest.

from what i have sussed out the camera is set to save the video files as "mts" files as opposed to "mpeg" which means that when i use a card reader i can find the files listed as mts files but they won't upload.

problem is how the flinkin blip do i change the file format on the camera without losing the footage? i have looked through the settings and the camera does let me change the format but it will from what i can tell erase the footage!

the other option is uploading the mts files (but how??!! as it won't let me) then changing the format.

so can anyone help??

or if you want to, i can just send someone, who actually knows what they are doing as opposed to me, the sd memory card an they can then edit up the footage and post a vid of the riding (remembering that i am no brilliant camera man!!)

any help happily considered :)

tried copying the little disc a minute ago, doesn't want to know :? i can find the files but when i click "copy" nothing happens, so i can't get past the first step!!!!! :x :x :x :x :x :x

I've converted end encoded video of various forms for years, and done DVD manipulation and authoring. Two sites you need - where this is concerned, I'm less convinced of the idea of using google:-

Videohelp

Doom9's forums

edit: I've never specifically worked with the format you have, but I have converted plenty of other formats to either avi (xvid predominately, originally DivX) and mpeg2 (PS, typically for DVD authoriing).

On videohelp, the search for both guides and tools has drop downs for conversion types and specifically lists many options for mts to countless other formats / codecs - so assuming you get past getting the video files on to your computer, there should be plenty of help and / or tools (normally, both freeware and payware) on there to do the task.

It's the MTS file extension that the MAC doesn't recognise so it will not do anything with it. Yuo need to update your imovie software to v9 to support these AVCHD lite files.

Carl.
