I recently bought a nice pair of Kona Project II forks, the thread on the steerer does not go down the steerer far enough for me to use a threaded headset on the forks. Can i get some more thread cut somewhere or shall I just use a ahead stem and headset and ruin the thread forever???

A decent bike shop will have the correct die and be able to cut more threads down the steerer.

Assuming the P2 has a straight gauge steel steerer so you can cut more thread until your hearts content. Check the steerer isn't butted - if it is be wary about cutting the threads too far.

Cool, live near AW Cycles in reading so will see if they can do the business for me.

P.S you seen this on ebay

Slight thread hijack: I would like to fit a carbon fork to my Thorn road bike. Trouble is, it has a threaded 1" headset & quill stem, and carbon forks only come in aheadset. Is there a problem with chasing a thread onto an alloy steerer?

usuallt threaded steerer have a different thickness where thread is .

so not recommanded .

Thanks. In any case, I just realised the deal breaker: would be that my quill stem won't fit inside an alloy steerer?
