question about a curious TREK 8000

Old School Hero
i'm a owner of a TREK 8000 frame that has some unusually features.
at first view it seems to be a ordinary serial bike from 91.
but look at the detailed pics, please!

i mean its better to show you the pics because my english is not so good to describe it accurate.
please notice the rear brake cable is led inside the top tube.
the shifting cables are led on the bottom of the down tube.
what the pics can not exactly shown, it has a 1" stem and a 1" STX headset.

anyone have an idea what kind of a 8000 it is?

it seems to be not the serial model what is pictured in the 91 TREK catalog.

many thanks in advance!
i hope you can say me whats "wrong" with my TREK... ;-)

8000

thanks! i've already done it.

it is definitely a 91 model.
the date is not the "mystery", but the modifications.

maybe a prototype or a pre-serial bike?

someone has seen a 8000 with this modifications anytime anywhere?

thanks again,
thordis

Do you konw what a 1990 frame looked like? Perhaps they had some bare frames left over and painted them in 1991 colours.

The 91 bikes in the brochure have 3 cablestoppers op the toptube, but the funny thing is:
They mounted a downpull derailleur, but the cable via the toptube.
The outercable goes all the way from the last cablestop till the derailleur.
How the hack should that work??

I'll try to scan the image. It's nice, because it's the same frame.

IIrc they had something like a cable stop that bolted to the cable clamp on the front mech. The inner cable then clamped on to a bolt on the frame. Instead of the inner cable moving the outer moved the mech.
