Pulstar Hubs

Any good? They looked the bomb BITD and always fancied a set. I've been told earlier USA made ones are best, while the later Asian productions had many issues with the rear freebody/hub.

Yes they are very good. I am always suprised by the number of people that claim to have them but see very few built in to wheelsets. There is a very good write up on them on the BikePro site which also explains the demise if the brand. The ones with the cartridge bearings are much better than the cheaper cone bearing versions. The hub design was way ahead of its time and was only copied in the last few years by the likes of Mavic.

Marwi do suitable spokes if you are looking to build some up.

i have 5 sets built and in use and another 2 awaiting spokes

so how do i tell if these are cartridge or cones, aside from taking it apart? also i read a little that there were different models? the guy had a tube of extra spokes that he included, so hopefully i'll be good in the long run.

yep, those were the set. also got a set of Ritchey Z-max thrown into the package! not K versions but not gonna complain. These are currently going onto my RM Blizzard build.

The photos suggest they are cartridge bearing type.

The front differs from mine in that the end spacers are alloy whereas mine are rubber.
I think mine are 1994,your are likely to be later but not much :?

What do the rear hubs go for these days? I've got a polished front one laced up to a Velocity rim and been hanging to get a rear for ages so I can lace up a rear wheel, now this has reminded me!

They only lace into a regular 3X pattern

went for £30 delivered.. and I paid under £15 (delivered) for a pair of red that, despite a couple of marks, haven't been built into a wheel.
