As above - The one I've fitted (new xtr top swing top/bottom pull) won't engage the granny ring- distance between the seat tube and derailleur is too wide?? (didnae ken that such a thing could occur!!). Also the h & L screws are blocked by the swing arm- do ye get mechs with the screws on the side or on a slant?

Also presently using non compact DX chainset, if that would have anything to do with it.

Any of ye (Ed?????? Mr K?????????) have the correct beast, let me know the model no etc, or if ye want to sell/swap, coolio ditto for chainset if ye have dx/xt square taper compact.

Could get the setup tae work with a longer BB axle, but I'd be pedalling aboot with my legs splayed like Amy Winhoose at a Crack Party..........

Cheers,
Dav

my lx works as i had the same problem with acess to the screws.the old lx has screws on the slant so they stick out at 2 o clock position.cannondale king kindly gave me the mech .he may know the type or serial number.

You can get screw drivers/allen keys that are set at a right angle to get into awkward spots like that I believe.

I've managed to get normal front mechs to work on all my proflexes... not always been easy (remove rear wheel etc to make adjustments.), but never had to resort to unusual designs.

BTW did you mean 857?

Had a similar problem with my Marin Mount Vision, no room below the swing arm to adjust the mech

Aye- though to be honest, the range adjusters aren't the main problem, ye can set them with the swing arm out of the way, or get some bent screwdriver type thang as Ed says- once they're set, that's more or less it until ye change chainset ot whatever.

I have worked out how to get an accurate measurement of the seat tube-derailleur distance, so it's probably a case of going to LBS and gettin' one to fit...........
:x

Part of the problem may be the old proper size chainrings and the modern front mech. The max number of teeth or capacity of the mech may be to small for the chainset. I've got similar problems on the Yeti 575, the XTR960 isn't too happy going on to the 46 outer, but its usuable with care.

You might be able the bodge it. Try angling the tail in a bit, or for a true bodge, leave the mech in place and bend the tail in. The mechs are quite soft, you should be able to bend it with your thumbs

Went doon to All Terrain today, answer was indeed a longer axle- older non compact DX cranks that I'm using fit a 122mm axle, not 110 as was original spec on' bike...........Sorted!! :D

Ended up using a longer axle in the end.............*dons behive wig, leopardskin min dress, staggers about a bit......*
