Prison for bus driver who did this....

Shocking

Had something similar happen along Oxford Road in Manchester a few months back.... bus stopped in the middle of the road picking up passengers due to the bus stop being full of other busses. I pull out early to move past him, making sure he has plenty of sight of me behind (assuming the use of mirrors, that is) and he swerves out while I am alongside him, without signalling.

I "communicate my displeasure" at him and he moves on, while I drop back, only for him to slow in traffic a few hundered meteres ahead and I again, move to overtake (I'm making a right turn soon anyway). As I overtake him, he once again swerves to his right, time deliberatley trying to force me into the oncoming traffic

Reported him there and then, tho not to the Police. Maybe I should have. Instead, I just got the number of his boss and reported to him what had happened

As said before, many many good bus drivers out there, but there are an increasing number of bad ones with attitudes that do not belong behind any wheel, let alone a bus. Got a bus home once when the bike was broken, and his braking and accelerating weher so violent, that 2 passengers fell over, and when I got off, the brakes were actually on fire!

No point in reporting the matter to a company, I have never had a response from any company I contacted about their drivers. The police is the only people they are going to take notice of.

To be fair, I did get a call-back and apology from the bus companies in question, stating that the drivers had either been disciplined or "sent for additional driver training" on both occasions. However this could mean anything, and in future, will go straight to Plod

I think it does highlight the dangers of starting conflict with drivers. What happened was appalling, but serves as a warning about reacting aggressively and provoking a completely berserk response.

There seems to be a crazed 1% who will do this kind of thing, just like the nutters who look at you in a funny way in a pub and want to start something.

I wasn't trying to start something. That is how I pick men up.

Seriously, we ought to remember how unusual this kind of thing is. No point living in fear.

Just don't expect justice if it does happen.

Even had the cyclist been killed I would imagine the driver would receive a much more lenient sentence than someone who killed using, for example, a knife.

Very good point..... no sense running off to hide behind the sofa in fear and never to ride a bike in public again, as some corners of the press would have your average "joe/jane" do (added drama and fear sells papers and increases viewing figures  )

Again, sadly tue....
Bus wielding yobbo's with a hoody and an ASBO dont roam the high-streets and parks of Middle England

The driver was from Frome.......says it all!

I commute on a daily basis and from my observations/experiences Bus and Taxi drivers seem to be very antagonistic towards cyclists i.e trying to close gaps and being abusive.

For people whose jobs/livelihood depends on it the stupidity of such actions is beyond me.

I saw this on my local news and it is shocking, 17 months inside :? deserves a lot longer imo,

Local news did say that Gavin is back riding his bike now.
